That is exactly where we began our journey several years ago; a journey that would not have been possible without the creative talent and professionalism that John Petri gave to us, resulting in the creation of a home that was far more extraordinary than we could have ever imagined!
When it comes to selecting an architect, there are many considerations that one may take into account, but fundamentally, the most important one is simply this: is the architect able to grasp the vision we have and create the home that expresses that vision? In other words, is he able to turn our dreams into reality? We approached John Petri, with our ideas and concepts for our “dream home”. He listened intently as we poured out our vision of a style of home we called “French Country meets Carolina Mountain.” He asked questions to help us refine our ideas and to give him a better idea of what we envisioned. He made several site visits to our property get a feel for the lay of the land… and to think about how to transform our ideas into a beautiful home that was well-suited to the property.
It was clear to us from the outset that John was able to grasp our vision and, most importantly, he was a great listener. After the first few initial meetings, John presented us with some concept sketches that showed us that he really “got it”! Even if we didn’t know the right questions to ask, he did. When we gave broad, vague concepts, he was able to refine and illuminate them for us in a way that made sense. Since we were living several states away at the time, we relied on exchanging ideas, questions, and suggestions via email or phone calls. John always made himself available and always patiently took time to discuss or explain things as we went along. Throughout the design process, we were continually amazed by the careful consideration and thought that John poured into the design details in addition to the way the house would flow and feel. John took the ideas we had and elevated them to a much higher level than we ever thought possible.
Not only is John an extremely talented and creative architect, but perhaps most importantly, he is a great listener and a deep thinker. He has the ability to think about details from a variety of perspectives, carefully considering the importance and impact of everything. From aesthetics, to structural engineering, to lighting, to seasonal considerations, to efficiency, and even to how it “feels” from an owner perspective. To find all those talents wrapped up in one individual is indeed a rarity. Perhaps best of all, John is such a kind, warm-hearted person… and working with him on our project was truly a pleasure.
